About Us

Our mission: To promote a community in Wharton of undergraduate students who identify as first-generation, low-income, and/or highly aided, or anyone that feels that they could benefit from these resources, through acknowledgement, visibility, advocacy, and connection.

Our vision: We envision an inclusive community in Wharton where students of all backgrounds feel that Wharton is a safe, comfortable, and equal space. Wharton FGLI (WFGLI) is a supportive, resourceful, and inclusive space, supported by the Wharton Undergraduate Division and Penn First Plus (P1P).

Our history: Wharton FGLI grew out of the Wharton FGLI Fridays initiative created by a Wharton senior in during February 2020. Wharton FGLI Fridays was a Friday speaker series held specifically for FGLI students in Wharton consisting of panels, workshops, socials, and conversations with Wharton administration. Although FGLI communities and programming had long existed at Penn, this was the first FGLI programming and eventual community created within Wharton.

With the support of the Wharton Undergraduate Division, students involved with Wharton FGLI Fridays chose to continue to hold similar events during the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years to further the mission of Wharton FGLI Fridays and create the first FGLI community within Wharton. Wharton FGLI students began pursuing Wharton Undergraduate Division sponsorship recognition in Fall 2022.
