WHARTON BOXING CLUB 2017/2018

WELCOME TO THE BEST WORKOUT OF YOUR LIFE
One of the most popular athletic clubs on campus, the Wharton Boxing Club is a community of students who share a passion for and/or want to learn more about the sport of boxing. We welcome individuals from all skill levels, and our membership includes everyone from amateur fighters to those who have never thrown a punch. Whether your goal is to participate in the legendary Fight Night--a charity event featuring our bravest fighters--or just to get in shape, you are invited to join our community! Remember -- absolutely NO prior experience is neccessary.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our conditioning sessions are held at the Sporting Club at the Bellevue (Broad/Walnut) in conjunction with the Penn Law Boxing Club four times a week: Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Our training is led by Greg Coachman--a former fighter and professional trainer--and focuses on building understanding of basic combos, fight strategies, and conditioning, conditioning, conditioning. You will be led through a variety of calisthenic circuits and non-contact punching drills. If you are interested, you can also begin sparring in Mid-October, where you will learn basic offense/defense strategies and get in the ring to pound it out.

As a member of our club, you can also expect to play and sweat together. The club has plans to sponsor a number of happy hours, inter-club social events, and of course to throw our full support behind Fight Night.

WHAT TO BRING

You need to have gloves (preferably 14oz or 16oz for men, 12oz or 14oz for women) and handwraps. Be sure to bring comfortable workout clothes, sneakers, water, and a towel to every practice. You will sweat... A LOT. We will also provide members the opportunity to purchase additional gear for sparring as well as Wharton Boxing Club t-shirts and other swag in the coming year. Details are forthcoming!

WHO CAN JOIN

The Wharton Boxing Club is open to Wharton MBA students and their partners only.

A BIT MORE ABOUT FIGHT NIGHT...

Arguably the most popular event at Wharton each year, Fight Night is a great opportunity to test out the skills you have learned in an great venue and for a great cause: the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia. Each year the event raises tens of thousands of dollars which go directly to the local community.

Being a member of Boxing Club does NOT guarantee that you get to fight. Fighters are selected by the club presidents, captain, and Clif each year based on their fitness level, skill, and availability of appropriate opponents. They will also be given (or subjected to!) additional training in preparation for the fight.

Fight Night 2018 is scheduled to take place on 17th March 2018. Further details will be circulated by the organization committee closer to the time but please contact Christina Nguyen (chrngu@wharton.upenn.edu) if you would like to get involved.
