7. Oct 24 - Speaker - Fundamentals of Value Investing | |
PEVC Club Speaker: Fundamentals of Value Investing, Isaac Schwartz, Wharton Alum, Portfolio Manager, Robotti & CompanyDate: 10/24/13 "Fundamentals of Value Investing: Why the principles of sensible, risk-averse investing don't vary that much from the Mid-Atlantic to Central Asia's Tian Shan" Speaker: Isaac Schwartz
Isaac Schwartz wanted to be a stockpicker from a geekily young age; but he never thought about foreign countries, of how taking time-tested principles of investment from the US and applying them in more manic-depressive stock markets overseas could be a sensible frame for generating good risk-adjusted returns in public equity markets. Since 2005, Isaac has kicked the tires regularly visiting businesses in emerging and developed markets across Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Central Asia, and Southeast Europe. Since June 2007, Isaac has managed Robotti Global Fund LLC, a partnership focused on investing in equities in international markets evaluated as trading at substantial discounts to their intrinsic value. Robotti Global Fund is advised by Robotti & Company Advisors LLC, an investment adviser established in 1983.
Isaac Schwartz is a portfolio manager for Robotti & Company Advisors LLC, an investment adviser that seeks to invest in companies trading at a significant discount to intrinsic value. In 2005, Isaac launched the firm’s initiative, now known as Robotti Global Fund, to apply fundamental investing in overseas markets. Isaac’s research has led him to work for extended periods of time in Singapore, Istanbul, and Beijing. He has lived in Hong Kong since 2008. Prior to joining Robotti & Company Advisors LLC, Isaac worked for Schiff's Insurance Observer, an investigative journal focused on the property-casualty insurance industry. Isaac is a graduate of the Wharton School.
