Highlights of what's happening this week:
- Show Penn a day in your life here in Philly: Join this year's “Day in the Life” on October 21, 2014. Take photos of your campus life—or anything interesting on campus—on Tuesday, October 21. Post the image to Instagram using the tag #PennDayinLife. More Info

- Penn Alum '11 Kira Simon-Kennedy started a nonprofit directory of artist residencies in China (chinaresidencies.com). They're running an open call for a three month, fully funded residency in Beijing this Winter: http://www.

- Penn Lens is a new photography club on campus. Their membership base has reached around 230 Penn students, and are very much an active student organization that wants to serve the photo community at Penn. Visit their Website and Facebook. - "Division #3 is a complete cycle of fractured space, bodies, and decisions. It will employ video to initialize parallel experiences of a live action."

Slought is pleased to present ...Cairo stories, a video and photographic installation by Judith Barry. Created from a collection of more than 200 interviews Barry conducted with Cairene women between the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the beginning of the Egyptian Revolution in 2011, ...Cairo stories is a series of short video monologues.

Please join the US premiere of Carlos Amorales’s 2014 film,The Man Who Did All Things Forbidden. Inspired by the novel Estrella Distante by Chilean author Roberto Bolaño, Amorales’s film explores Bolaño's view of the Chilean avant-garde and revels in the surreal imagery and poetic rhythm of his writing. A conversation with Amorales and Andréa Picard (Film Curator, Toronto International Film Festival), led by Amorales's frequent collaborator Reinaldo Laddaga, and a light cocktail reception will follow. Walid Raad's works to date include video, photography and literary essays. Penn Lens: Call for Guest Photography Speakers

Penn Lens is a new photography club on campus that aspires to become a liaison between our members and the photo/fine arts department at Penn. China Residencies: Open Call for the Crystal Ruth Bell Fully Funded Residency
Deadline: October 25th
The artist selected will be awarded a fully-funded three month residency from December 2014 until February 2015. Travel and visa costs will be covered, and the artist will be given a stipend for materials and additional living expenses. Applicants must have a valid passport and be willing and able to travel to Beijing for the entire duration of the residency.

Fifteen photographers will be chosen to have their twelve-image portfolios published in the Center’s Annual Portfolio ShowCase book. One artist will be chosen for a solo exhibition at the Center for Fine Art Photography. The Center will exhibit prints from the selected artists in conjunction with the book launch to promote the artists.

Aperture Portfolio Prize 2015
Deadline: December 2nd
First prize is awarded $3,000 and an exhibition at Aperture Gallery. The first-prize winner and up to five runners-up will be featured on Aperture’s website, accompanied by a brief statement written by Aperture staff. All winners are announced in the foundation’s e-newsletter, which reaches fifty thousand subscribers across the globe, including curators, critics, and members of the photography community. Winners will also have the opportunity to participate in the Aperture Foundation limited-edition print program.

International Contemporary Artists
International Contemporary Artists is a series of art books aiming to connect artists and the art world in a direct and effective way. Artists are invited to submit their work for selection in order to be included in the book.
Call for Graduate Work: In the In-Between
In the In-Between is a web-based photography journal founded by photo-artist and writer Gregory Eddi Jones. In-B is designed to encourage discovery and discussion among digital imaging artists, and to serve as a forum for photography rooted in computer-based processes.
This is a unique opportunity for grad students interested and engaged with developing practices in photographic media, and all who submit work and/or writings will be considered for online publication.
