Michael Barton is a Senior Sector Head at Coatue, where he focuses on the firm’s public investing business. Prior to joining Coatue in 2022, Michael worked at Melvin Capital Management and Moelis & Company. He is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a B.S. in Finance, and was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 in Finance.

Michael will also share firsthand insights from his experience at Melvin Capital during the GameStop episode, including lessons on risk management, market structure, and decision-making under extreme pressure.

This talk will focus on how a $70B tech fund finds the next wave of AI winners, how to invest in enduring technology platforms amid hype cycles, and advice for students considering a career in investing.

Coatue is one of the most influential global tech funds, with returns that have nearly tripled the S&P 500 over the last few years.

This fireside chat is presented by the Harris Family Alternative Investments Program, the Wharton Undergraduate Private Equity & Venture Capital Club, and the Wharton Investment Management Club. The moderated discussion will be followed by an open audience Q&A.
