Producer Tasting: Sphaerics Wine

We’re thrilled to host an evening with Sphaerics Wine, a project that speaks directly to why we’re so drawn to great Chardonnay in the first place. Few varietals reveal a winemaker’s instincts more clearly, and Sphaerics is built on the idea that restraint, precision, and intention are what allow vineyard and craft to shine.

Sphaerics is founded by Laura Jones and Brian Ball, an industry power couple whose combined experience places them among the most well-trained young voices in California wine. The two work side by side at Skipstone, where Brian serves as General Manager and Laura as Winemaker. Before that, Laura spent several formative years as Assistant Winemaker at Aubert, one of California’s most exacting and respected Chardonnay producers. That background informs a deep understanding of texture, balance, and how to shape wines that are both expressive and built to age.

The vision for Sphaerics is clear and uncompromising: to create wines that favor tension over excess, clarity over volume, and site expression over signature. Chardonnay sits at the heart of the project, approached with a deliberate focus on structure, energy, and mouthfeel rather than overt richness. The same thoughtful philosophy extends to their Pinot Noir, resulting in wines that feel cohesive, precise, and quietly confident.
