Monday Somm Series: Nikita Malhotra (Smithereens/Pressoir)

If you look at any list of star somms in the New York City wine scene, Nikita Malhotra will be on it--and she has the awards to back that statement up. A New York native, Nikita’s passion for biodynamic and sustainable wines was nurtured early, leading her from managing a 150‑selection organic wine bar to pivotal roles at Tribeca Grill, Pressoir, and Momofuku Ko--where she elevated the Burgundy- and Champagne-focused program. Nikita was named Sommelier of the Year by the Michelin Guide New York in 2022 and was recognized for guiding Ko’s wine list to the Grand Prix Star Wine List Award in 2023. She was also named VinePair's Next Wave Sommelier of the Year in 2025.

Nikita is the Head Sommelier at Pressoir--an events company that organizes legendary dinners and tastings, including La Paulee and La Fete du Champagne. Her most recent project is Smithereens (read the NY Times review) in the East Village, where she is a co-owner alongside Chef Nick Tamburo.
