- How much will the final cost be / why are we paying a deposit?
The final per-person cost will depend on several factors including which distilleries we visit, whether or not someone comes with a partner or is amenable to sharing a room, the required transportation costs, and any scale discounts we can get with larger numbers. Last year, the cost of the trip was ~$1,000 excluding airfare, which we are aiming to get in under this year. We will be providing full price transparency to trip participants and everyone will be paying full fare.
- Which distilleries will we be visiting?
Tours will include the likes of Copper and Kings (Louisville) and Whiskey Thief (Frankfort) along with additional tastings depending on interest, numbers, and availability. Also, there’s a bonus small group tasting before we leave for those who get their deposits in early (see below)!
- What other events will we be doing?
We are planning a special tasting event hosted by a Louisville-based Wharton alum who recently established a whiskey and cocktail bar in Louisville. Saturday night in Louisville will also be Thunder Over Louisville, one of the largest fireworks shows in the U.S. and an annual tradition two weeks before the Kentucky Derby and the official kickoff to Derby festivities.
- Will there be a cap on signups?
We may need to cap sign-ups depending on distillery availability, so please grab your spot(s) as soon as possible if you are interested in coming!
- Can I get more than one ticket?
Whiskey Club members can put in a deposit for up to two spots. One for themselves and one for a partner/guest with whom they will be sharing a room.
- When should I fly in / out?
We would suggest getting in early Friday morning and leaving Sunday night to allow for a full day of experiences on Friday (Louisville) and Saturday (Bardstown), as well as some bonus time on Sunday. If enough participants want to arrive Thursday night, we will organize group accommodation for Thursday night as well.
- Where should I fly from?
Southwest has reasonable fares from PHL to Louisville, but there are also great options out of New York and Baltimore (BWI).
- What’s this I hear about a free tasting?
Buffalos, Eagles, and Horseys. Oh my! The first 10 deposits submitted will be invited to a free bourbon tasting to get into the Kentucky spirit. We’ll have Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and even some Blanton’s! The exact date and time will be decided based on the availability of those invited.
